Runway Rework: Lyn Devon Fall 2012
It appears that winter white isn’t just for winter any more. There were lots of ivory, cream and bone monochromatic looks on the runways for fall 2012.
A lot of people are fussy about all white, claiming it’s strictly for hot weather, or that it shows stains too easily, or that it’s bridal. But I’m an adult who doesn’t spill my juice, it’s warm year ’round in much of the country, and the bridal thing applies to evening gowns, not sportswear. I, for one, am happy to embrace the white trend, especially considering the actual color options that are going to be available.
This look by Lyn Devon is romantic without being cloying. The skirt has great sculptural volume to it, and I like the length, a refreshing stop between midi and maxi. The sweater is just enough sorority girl ’60s to keep this very covered-up look from going Amish on us. Let’s see how close we can get.
- BCBGMaxAzria white maxi skirt – We’ll have to settle for multiple pleats, and taking this up five or six inches.
- I couldn’t find any sweaters that were quite as…ebullient…as the Lyn Devon. The real fluffy stuff usually doesn’t show up in stores until around the holidays. The “vintage” Express sweater‘s neckline is too low. The idea here is to do sexy angora with a crewneck and long sleeves. The J. Jill cotton and cashmere sweater comes closer, but would be awfully bulky to wear tucked in. Still, it’s the better choice to replicate this look.
- AK Anne Klein Christa pumps – D’Orsay pumps in black will last you forever. It’s not clear if these are leather or not. If not, splurge on some more expensive cousins.
