Lemon/Neon/French’s Mustard/Emmy Yellow
A new color reigned supreme on the 2012 Emmy Awards red carpet (which everyone on the TV referred to as “night,” but which actually went down on a blazing hot afternoon), and it was YELLOW. Say goodbye to last spring’s pastels, ladies. If it’s sunny and eye-catching and glowing-from-the-heat-of-an-overheated-nuclear-rod bright you want to wear, now is your moment. I would love to show you pics of Julianne Moore, Clare Danes, Julie Bowen, Hannah Simone and others, but that would require a photo budget. Maybe next year? Anyway, you can see a gallery of most of the red carpet looks here.
I thought that this color looked really great on television, which doesn’t necessarily guarantee that it will transfer to real life. Whether it shines or blinds is going to depend on your coloring, venue lighting, and what you’ve got in your makeup bag. This is not a universally flattering color, by any stretch. But if it works for you, I found some less gala-oriented looks you can try.
