Gown Me.
There aren’t a lot of black tie events on my social calendar (wait…probably because I don’t have a social calender), but when someone is kind enough to toss me a formal invite bone, it generally causes panic around here. At this age I still haven’t learned to have a few evening gowns in the back of the closet that might work for whatever season and city is hosting. Part of the reason is because unlike the tuxedo, women can’t necessarily invest in a single formal outfit that will work wherever for years to come. So I’ve resolved to jump on good gowns when I see them, even if there’s no invite magnet-ed to the fridge. What am I looking for? Something between prom and mother-of-the-bride, without veering into Real Housewives territory.
- Lauren by Ralph Lauren one shoulder gown – A classic evening gown; as close to a lady tuxedo as you will get.
- Mango turquoise and print blocked dress – Definitely on the more casual side of formal, but a great structure and fun colors
- Calvin Klein asymmetric sleeveless dress – There’s a 40% off everything sale running right now.
Check out David Meister’s dresses. They are flattering, not horribly expensive, not tacky, and stay in style forever. A modern twist on classic. Or if you wanna go slutty, Mandalay is your brand….
